Today we're going to tell you which unique places are especially good for watching the sunset in Costa Rica to experience.
The more than 1,000 kilometers of Pacific coastline, makes the west coast of the country an ideal area to enjoy sunsets. But also in the interior there are some places with great views of the sinking sun. Due to the proximity to the equator, the daily natural spectacle takes place at 5:30 pm, so keep this time free to not miss any of the beautiful sunsets.
Santa Teresa
On the west coast of Costa Rica lies the Nicoya Peninsula, at the southern tip of which you will find the small town of Santa Teresa. This small town stretches along extensive beaches lined with coconut palms and is very well known among surfers and yogis. Here you can enjoy some beautiful sunsets, with unobstructed views of the sun merging with the sparkling sea on the horizon.
This region can only be reached by unpaved roads and the beaches are, as it is usual for Costa Rica, very natural and therefore beautiful. The beaches in Santa Teresa are perfect for a long day at the beach, surfing or taking a walk and then watching one of the beautiful sunsets. You can also visit one of the beautiful beach bars, which is located in the middle of the palm trees and with a cool drink you can look at the sea and the colored sky.
Santa Ana Windfarms
A somewhat unusual place to watch the natural spectacle is the wind farm in Santa Ana. This area is known for the incredible view of the Central Valley, which is made even more special by the evening glow.
To get there, however, you need a 4×4 vehicle, because the path is very steep. However, if you prefer to get to the wind farm on foot or by bike, that's also a great option. The climb, however, takes several hours, but is definitely worth it for the view!
Apart from the valuable wind energy and the imposing sight of the huge propellers, you are guaranteed to leave everyday life behind you here and feel the connection to nature. The view of the green overgrown hilly landscape is truly gigantic and especially beautiful when the evening sun bathes the surroundings in delicate shades of red. The wind farm is also perfect for a sunset picnic.
Orosí
Where there are viewpoints, dreamy sunsets are usually not far away. Orosí is known for its breathtaking views thanks to its high altitude and is surrounded by thermal pools. The view of the fertile valley, clouds winding through the hilly surroundings and a view into the far distance await you in the mountains of Cartago. The sunset colors the scenery and makes the landscape shine in a whole new way. Orosí is not only the best place to see the sunset, but can also be combined with a trip to the thermal pools.
Manuel Antonio
Costa Rica is known for the large number of national parks, among which Manuel Antonio is especially popular. This unique place on the Pacific coast, where the mountains meet the sea and lush jungle covers the hilly landscape, creates wonderful conditions for sunsets. When the evening spectacle begins and the last light disappears on the horizon, the vivid colors slowly change to shadows. You can watch the colorful play of light either with your feet in the sand or with your favorite drink in your hand from a local restaurant.
For the best sunset views, check out the following restaurants:
>Ronny's Place
>Runaway Grill: Marina Pez Vela
>Restaurant La Luna: Gaia Hotel
Smithsonian Research Center
Watching the sunset from a former research center does not sound very romantic, but it is much more beautiful than it sounds. Because here, at the Arenal Observatory Lodge, far from the coast, a breathtaking view awaits you: Your gaze falls on the Arenal Volcano, only a few kilometers away, and also on the eastern shore of Lake Arenal. The pristine waters reflect the colors of dusk and conjure up a unique view that you can hardly observe from any other place.
The Arenal Observatory Lodge is not very easy to reach, because it is located 20 minutes off the main road on a bumpy gravel road. If you don't plan to spend the night there, it's worth it to walk along the nature trails already in the afternoon and then marvel at the natural spectacle from the terrace of the restaurant.
