Preparation

Step 1: Snipping

Before we begin, the garlic cloves, coriander sprigs and onion are finely chopped and the ginger pieces are grated.

Step 2: Let's get started!

After you have prepared everything, the ghee or oil is heated in a large pan. If possible, use ghee, a clarified butter from Ayurveda. Ghee is used especially in India, Nepal, the Middle East for the preparation of dishes and in religious rituals. Once your pan is hot, fry the onions in it. Make sure they do not brown.

Step 3: Spice party

Now it's time to fill our pan with more goodies. Add ginger, garlic, red chili powder, ground coriander seeds, and turmeric and stir the mixture over medium heat for about 4 minutes. (The chopped cilantro follows later).

Step 4: The Base: Moong Dal

Now follows the base: Moong Dal. Add Moong Dal to the pan and mix it well with your onion mixture. If there is no Moong Dal in your supermarket, you can also resort to red lentils 🙂 Boil water in a separate pot on the side.

Step 5: Almost there!

Add three glasses of water to the pan with our dal and bring to a boil. Add the salt and reduce the heat for about 15 minutes until the lentils are soft. Now is the time to stir in the freshly chopped cilantro and remove your dish from the heat. Cook the rice in the separate pot.

Bravo, you did it! Now enjoy your Nepali Dal Bhat with white boiled rice. Enjoy your meal!
