Constitutional rank for environmental protection

Namibia is the first country in all of Africa to enshrine the protection of their country's nature in their constitution. In particular, the aim is to ensure that the habitat of the indigenous wildlife is preserved and that the country's natural resources are used responsibly. Only a few countries in the world describe the protection of nature in their constitution as extensively as Namibia.

De-Bushing

Large parts of the land are covered with bushes and shrubs, which thus create a unique ecosystem. They provide habitat, shelter and food for native animals. Globalization continues to introduce plant species that invasively occupy habitat and displace native species through aggressive spread. De-bushing removes these very species to contain monocultures without natural enemies. The wood from these plants is used, for example, as firewood or barbecue charcoal.

Olusheno: Electricity for Namibia

"Olusheno" is the Namibian word for electricity. And that is exactly what the social business Olusheno brings to the remote parts of the country. Only 34% of the rural population here have access to electricity. When not using climate-damaging and dangerous kerosene lamps, residents simply sit in the dark after sunset. This makes it impossible for children to learn in the evening hours. In addition, the operation of the kerosene lamps is very expensive for the poorer sections of the population. Olusheno offers only solar power, so that the energy is produced in an environmentally friendly way and the people can save their money for other purposes.

The trees are not only used for reforestation, they are grown as seedlings and then given to the local population.
