The nature of Armenia is characterized by its unique beauty. Armenians are aware of this great flora and fauna and want to preserve it through national parks. Wild mountain ranges, great wide grasslands and the great Lake Sevan characterize the impressive nature. Despite the small size of the country, the national parks impress with an incredible diversity of animals and plants. In order to preserve this natural diversity, four parks have been established here. All parks can be easily reached from the capital Yerevan or other places in the country. Here we have created an overview for you:
Arevik National Park
Arevik National Park was established in 2009 and has a size of about 344 square kilometers. Thus, this national park is the largest in Armenia. It is located in the south of the country in Syunik province. Arevik National Park is famous for the large number of butterfly species that can be observed there. It is estimated that in Arevik National Park there are about 150 butterfly species live. Also 180 species of birds can be found there. These include the lammergeyer, the peregrine falcon and also the golden eagle. Arevik National Park is not only the largest, but certainly one of the most beautiful. It impresses with its great diversity and is a must for every nature lover.
Sevan National Park
Around the beautiful Lake Sevan, the Sevan National Park would be established in 1978. It protects the flora and fauna of Lake Sevan and the surrounding areas. There are 267 species of birds alone and many mammals such as hares, wolves and martens. Amphibians can also be found in the Sevan National Park. With its impressive wildlife, it is one of the most exciting in the country.
The national park has a size of about 342 square kilometers. It is located in Gegharkunik province. Lake Sevan is also called the blue soul or pearl of Armenia. On the edge of the lake you can also find the Sevanavank Monasterywhich fits picturesquely into the landscape. Sevan National Park should be visited by everyone who has the opportunity and likes to be by the water. Especially in summer, this park is an absolute highlight.
Lake Arpi National Park
Arpisee National Park, like Arevik National Park, was established in 2009 to protect nature. It is a little smaller with 250 square kilometers, but still offers plenty of landscape to explore. In addition to Lake Arpi, the surrounding areas with their flora and fauna are protected. Exactly 225 of a total of 366 bird species found in Armenia can be found in Lake Arpi National Park.
Lake Arpi and its national park are found in the province of Shirak. What makes the park special is that it is surrounded by the Javakheti Range to the northwest and the Yeghnakhagh Mountains to the west. Those who have the opportunity to visit Lake Arpi National Park should take it to experience a truly special national park of Armenia.
Dilijan National Park: The oldest national park
Dilijan National Park is the smallest in Armenia. It has a size of about 240 square kilometers. Nevertheless it is the oldest national park of the country since its foundation dates back to 1958. It is located in the northern province of Tavush. The mineral water springs and unique forests are especially beautiful in this park. Besides the nature, there are also some cultural monuments in this national park. These include the Goshavank Monastery, which Akhnabat Church, which Matosavank Monastery and that Haghartsin Monastery.
