Greece: The 7 most beautiful beaches

Table of Contents

For beach lovers, there's not much better than Greece. With hundreds of inhabited islands and thousands of kilometers of coastline, the country offers an amazing number of golden sandy beaches lapped by the crystal clear waters of the Ionian and Aegean Seas. You'll find everything your heart desires on Greece's islands. Popular stretches of sand with a certain hustle and bustle, secluded bays to escape the crowds, beaches for windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing, and sandy beaches in a variety of colors. Here is our selection of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Some of them are among the most worth seeing and well-known - others are currently still insider tips!

Seychelles - Ikaria

Gray Crab On White Sand During Daytime

Seychelles and Europe? That can only be found in Greece, and on the island of Ikaria. The marble pebbles, emerald waters and huge rocks polished by the waves make you feel like you've been teleported to the middle of the Indian Ocean - hence the name. To get there, you have to go on a short adventure. An unmarked path leads you down the rocks from the parking lot at the tunnel on the road towards Manganitis. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes!

Travel Tip: Pay attention to the tides! - At high tide it is not possible to get to the beach. However, you could still enjoy the view of the rock.

Faneromeni - Antiparos

A visit to the unknown beach, Faneromeni, which leads you the last 20 minutes on a dirt road, is well worth it! Faneromeni Beach is located at the very southern tip of Antiparos and is adorned with a white sandy beach. The color gradient with the turquoise water makes the place absolutely unique. It does not get crowded even in the high season and if it does, there are enough secluded bays and beaches on the "peninsula" to escape to.

Travel Tip: Be sure to take enough food and drink with you if you are staying longer, because there is nothing on site except shallow water and untouched nature.

Pori Beach and Natural Pool - Koufonisia

Brown Rock Formation Near Blue Sea During Daytime

Pori beach is located on the northeastern edge of the island, 3.7 km from Hora, the only village on Koufonisia. It can be reached either by a paved road that cuts through the island, or by a rocky dirt road that passes a series of small beaches. If you like beach bars and endless rows of deck chairs, this is not the place for you. Here, tamarisk trees serve as umbrellas and the sound of the waves as music.

Travel Tip: Avoid the month of August, when there are often numerous boats anchored at Pori Beach. In the months of June, July and September it looks different.

At the beginning of the beach a few minutes walk away you will find a Natural Pool (Pisina) with incredible rocky scenery.

Kokkini (Red) Beach - Santorini

The hippie beach of the 70s, is located just one kilometer from one of the most popular resorts of Santorini, Matala beach. However, the reddish dream beach and the breathtaking volcanic landscape make this beach a must visit. The particular rock formations offer breathtaking views, and the glassy sea contrasts with the vibrant red of the shore. Since the beach is pebbly, it is not necessarily suitable for lying for hours, but the rock formations make it perfect for snorkeling.

Travel Tip: Red Beach is very susceptible to westerly winds. On stormy days it can quickly become uncomfortable. But already the ascent and subsequent view from the top of the bay provide an unforgettable vacation experience.

There are other beaches on the island that have become charming black sand beaches due to the volcanic past, such as Perissa beach or Kamari beach.

Elafonissi Beach - Crete

People On Beach During Daytime

Located in the southwestern corner of Crete, this symphony of fine pinkish-white sand, turquoise water and gentle pink dunes looks like a magical dreamscape. As the water swirls through the sand, rainbows shimmer across its surface. In front of the long, wide beach of Elafonissi lies the small island of Elafonissi, occasionally connected by a thin, sandy headland that forms a beautiful double beach; otherwise it is easily reached by trudging through 50 meters of knee-deep water.

Travel Tip: The quite magical atmosphere of the beach, of course, has already spread and you should consider an off-season trip for an overall quieter and more sustainable visit.

Sarakiniko beach - Milos

Sarakiniko: One Of The Most Beautiful Beaches In Greece

Milos is quiet, not crowded and full of treasures. Sarakiniko is the most popular beach on the island of Milos. It is unique and takes you to the moon with its unreal landscapes and turquoise waters. Although there is only a slightly smaller sandy beach over which you can get into the water on foot, there are also numerous opportunities to jump over cliffs into the water! Be sure to explore the landscape outside of the water and go on a short hike across the lunar landscape. You'll discover incredible landscapes, abandoned underground tunnels and much more.

Travel Tip: Since Sarakiniko Beach is the most popular on the island of Milos and has become a well-known Instagram spot in recent years, you should definitely head there early in the morning for some peace and quiet. From about 9 o'clock the beach is already filling up.

Balos beach - Crete

Green Grass Near Body Of Water During Daytime

Located on the northwestern tip of Crete, the Gramvousa Peninsula, Balos Beach is the place to be. Exotic greens and blues of the water, sweeping pink and white glistening sandbanks and the backdrop of Cape Tigani will amaze you. The offshore island of Gramvousa with its Venetian castle definitely makes the scenery a fairy tale landscape.

Travel Tip: Nowhere is the beauty of the surroundings more apparent than from the viewpoint on the way down to the beach. Be sure to take the time to enjoy this view!
