The Kozjansko Regional Park is one of Sloweniens oldest and largest protected areas, located in eastern Slovenia. Along the River Sotla, it depicts a mosaic of the pre-Alpine Posavje Mountain Range, hills, and plains. The landscape diversity and extraordinary biodiversity of Kozjansko Park appeal to visitors at all times of the year. It draws visitors in the spring with its blossoming orchards and meadows, in the summer with activities, in the autumn with the Kozjansko Apple Festival, and in the winter with peace and quiet.

Skocjan Caves Park

The Kocjan Caves, a well-known and well-explored amazing natural phenomenon, has long been regarded as exceptional due to its tremendously varied topography and extremely diversified flora and fauna. Rare and endangered bird species, as well as various bat species, find refuge in collapse dolines and their surroundings. The Skocjan Caves are also well-known for pioneering research into the Karst’s underground features, which dates back to the days when people looked kilometers deep into the Karst’s dark depths in wooden boats with only torches in their hands.

Notranjska Regional Park

The municipality of Cerknica founded the Notranjska Regional Park in 2002 with the goal of preserving, protecting, and exploring natural and cultural values, as well as ancient and cultural legacy. This 222-square-kilometer park is a true wildlife sanctuary, containing many of the region’s karst features, including the intermittent Lake Cerknica, woods, meadows, wetlands, caverns (particularly Krina Cave), and the Rakov Kocjan canyon. Orchards, conserved buildings, and historic hayracks contribute to the cultural history of the area. Within its boundaries are excellent hiking, cycling, and birdwatching opportunities.Bears thrive inside the park’s boundaries, and there’s a chance of spotting wolves and Eurasian lynx.

Pivka Nature Park

The Pivka intermittent lakes are the landscape’s main attraction. In the valley, there are 17 of them. The mystical lake landscape changes every day, so we can return and find something new each time. The rich cultural heritage, which dates back to the Stone Age, has left many fascinating stories to be discovered. Nature, the greatest of artists, makes strolling through the park enjoyable all year. Researchers detected 182 kinds of plants, 211 types of beetles, 106 species of diurnal butterflies, and 133 species of birds in the area, which is known for its high biodiversity.
