Africa is for many an absolute longing destination. The big question is, if you already have the opportunity to visit this wonderful continent, which of the many worth seeing countries should you head for? With this post we want to present you a few very good reasons why your choice could fall on Namibia.
Namibia is located in the southern part of Africa and stretches along the Atlantic coast. The country borders Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Angola. The capital of Namibia is Windhoek and the currency is the Namibian dollar. The country is home to about 2.3 million inhabitants. Namibia and Germany are historically closely linked, as the country was a German colony from the end of the 19th century until 1915. There are still people in Namibia today who speak German or a variation of it.
That's why we think you should definitely travel to Namibia:
Africa away from mass tourism
Namibia gives you the opportunity to experience Africa away from mass tourism. Other destinations in Africa are certainly better known and longer developed, but there you often have the feeling to be one among many. Namibia, however, still offers the possibility to feel like an adventurer and explorer.
The Etosha National Park
A great aspect of a trip to Africa is, of course, the diverse wildlife. Etosha National Park is an excellent place to see the animals of Africa that you would like to see up close. These include lions, zebras, antelopes, meerkats, rhinos, hyenas, elephants, giraffes, porcupines and many, many more.
The Skeleton Coast
The northern part of the Atlantic coast is also called the Skeleton Coast. The landscape is very impressive and many shipwrecks line the coast. This is where the name comes from. The wrecks are the many "skeletons" along the coast. In addition, many shipwrecked people died of thirst in this region due to its aridity. The Skeleton Coast is truly a special, perhaps somewhat eerie place.
Swakopmund
If you were to be in Namibia and could only visit one city, it should certainly be Swakopmund. The city benefits from its coastal location and convinces with its old colonial style. You could also call Swakopmund a bit of an oasis in the desert, as it is surrounded by a lot of desert.
Fish River Canyon
You may have seen impressive canyons before, but the Fish River Canyon at sunrise is something absolutely unique.
Damarland
In the northwest of Namibia is the Damarland. A beautiful landscape that is certainly not yet on the list of many travelers and is therefore still a real insider tip.
Road trip paradise
Many also describe Namibia as a paradise for those who want to make a road trip. A good road network and enough opportunities for discovery make Namibia an excellent place to explore by car.
