Your Guide

Hey, I am Vilma

Hey, my name is Vilma and I'm your guide for the Finland adventure! I grew up in Oulu, Finland and have always traveled to the far north every chance I get, where I have now settled permanently a few years ago. After a long time in the Netherlands, I missed the snow and swapped biking in the city for forays in the snowy woods. Already my whole life I work in the tourism industry and can't imagine anything better. I am a trained wilderness guide and can be found in the local forests all year round, snowboarding in the winter and backpacking in the summer. I am already looking forward to show you the beautiful landscape of Lapland and to experience an incredible adventure together!

Arrival
Arrival: Kittilä Airport (KTT)
Please remember to book your flights separately. Plan your arrival so you will arrive at the airport by 3pm in the afternoon to start our Finnish adventure together.
Arrival
Day 1
Day 1: Welcome to Lapland! (Levi)
Upon arrival at the airport, our English speaking guide will be waiting for you and you will be equipped with warm clothes for your winter adventure. After a short drive through the snow-covered landscape we arrive at our accommodation; a cozy chalet in the middle of the wilderness. Once arrived you can warm up by the warm fireplace and get to know your fellow travelers better. In the evening, we immediately head out on our first adventure. Equipped with snowshoes, we will go in search of the breathtaking northern lights and enjoy a delicious dinner by the open fire in a "kota" - an authentic Lappish tipi. Back at the chalet you will have the opportunity to relax and warm up from the harsh cold of Finland with a relaxing sauna session before the first day of our trip comes to an end.
Day 1
Day 2
Day 2: Real Finnish luxury (Pallas-Yllas National Park)
After a fortifying breakfast we will make our way to the border of Pallas-Ylläs National Park. From here we will start our way to today's accommodation on snowshoes. We will pull our luggage behind us on Nordic sledges, the pulkas. After a few hours in untouched wilderness we will reach the wilderness hut where we will spend the night. Here we will first warm up at the open fire and have our lunch. Afterwards we have the opportunity to hike up to the tree line to admire the magical sunset over the Lapland landscape. Once back at the cabin, true Finnish luxury awaits. Although the cabin has neither running water nor electricity, there is a traditional wooden sauna, which we immediately fire up together. Afterwards we take a cooling bath and are spoiled with a dinner of delicious Lappish specialties. For the night we share the sleeping place in the hut, but for the very brave there is the possibility to sleep directly outside under the clear starry sky of the north!
Day 2
Day 3
Day 3: Exploring untouched wilderness (Pallas-Yllas National Park)
After an unforgettable night, the next adventure is already waiting for us today. We will hike together through the snow-covered landscape to the top of the mountain Sammal or Keimiö. Although the Italian explorer Giuseppe Acerbi described the landscape as "impassable for humans" in his time, the hike today is quite easily doable. If the weather is good, you can see for hundreds of kilometers and marvel at the incredible views! Also today, we'll have lunch around an open fire before you have time to explore the landscape on your own in the afternoon. Whether you want to capture some beautiful scenery, go in search of wildlife, or just sit back by the fire and enjoy the peace and quiet, Lapland has what your heart desires. Back at our cabin, we treat ourselves to the daily sauna session before being treated to more delicious specialties for dinner and retiring for the night.
Day 3
Day 4
Day 4: Hot saunas & icy fish (Lake Jerisjärvi)
After breakfast we will engage in a very popular Finnish activity. On Lake Keimiö we drill a hole in the thick ice layer with the help of special tools and try our luck at traditional ice fishing! We enjoy lunch back at the wilderness cabin before strapping on our snowshoes again and heading out of the national park. We then travel to a traditional smoke sauna where we can relax our muscles and warm up. For an authentic Nordic experience, we end the sauna session with a dip in the ice-cold lake to really get the blood flowing! Awakened and refreshed, we then head to the familiar chalet of the first night, where a delicious dinner is already waiting for us. Here you can sit by the fireplace with your new friends and reminisce about the last days.
Day 4
Day 5
Day 5: A drive on four paws (Majavaoja)
Get ready to check off a long-awaited wish on your bucket list! After a hearty brunch, we'll be picked up by a dog sled guide and travel to his husky farm. Here we will get an insight into life on the farm and learn how to drive a dog sled safely during a briefing. Here you will be equipped with your own dog team and a sled! Afterwards we will go on a first discovery tour through the surrounding nature with our four-legged friends and enjoy the cool driving wind, the company of the huskies and the incredible silence of the landscape. Back at the husky farm we set up our sleeping place and relax again in the sauna before dinner is served. If you wish, you can even help the dog sled guide take care of the hardworking huskies and learn more about their life as sled dogs.
Day 5
Day 6
Day 6: Huskies and reindeer up close (Taalo)
After a delicious breakfast, we get on the skids again today and enjoy another dog sled tour. The way leads us through untouched nature, dark forests and over snowy fields, in constant company of our animal friends. After an exciting day, however, it is time to say goodbye to the huskies and we return to our chalet, where you can warm up again in the sauna. At nightfall we set off again and travel to a local reindeer farm. Here you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the fascinating animals and learn more about the way of life of the reindeer and their breeders. The last dinner will be prepared on an open fire in a traditional kota, overlooking the tranquil landscape of Lapland, which we have been allowed to call home for the last few days. We will then return to our chalet for our last night in the far north.
Day 6
Day 7
Day 7: Goodbye, winter wonderland! (Levi)
Today it is time to say goodbye and after a last brunch we will transport you either to the airport or, if you still have some time, to the town of Levi for some shopping.
