A private shuttle will take you to your hotel in the city center. Today you will have all the time you need to settle in and arrive in Georgia. In the evening, we'll enjoy our first dinner together and toast to our adventure together. After a restful night, we will explore the fascinating city of Tbilisi together.
We will explore the winding streets of the new and old parts of the city and end our day with a traditional wine tasting. The country's most important cultural, political and economic centre attracts visitors from all over the world with its hospitality, tolerance and fascinating mix of eastern and western elements of architecture. With its bohemian art scene, vibrant nightlife and long-standing tradition of sulphur baths, Tbilisi offers unique experiences for every traveller.
On our exclusive city tour you will discover both the new and the old quarters of the city. You will get a genuine impression of the city's omnipresent young spirit of optimism paired with the still very present Soviet past. A stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets will eventually lead us to our private wine tasting, where we can sample the special Georgian wine that is traditionally aged in underground clay barrels. Legend has it that it tastes best when drunk from a clay pot.
The Georgian Military Highway was once the only way to travel through the impenetrable Greater Caucasus and has been a major land bridge between Russia and Georgia for centuries, used by traders and travellers alike. Apart from its historical significance, this corridor offers some of the most stunning landscapes in the country, dotted with unique sights.
Our journey takes us past Soviet relics, historic fortresses and fascinating monasteries preserved from the Middle Ages, as the road becomes increasingly winding and the mountain landscape more idyllic after each bend. Finally, we reach the region of Kazbegi, high above sea level, where traditional village life still persists and the white and black Aragvi rivers merge. Welcome to the northern gate of Georgia!
The history of Georgia is more than complicated, but remains a defining aspect of the country's landscape. Mtskheta, the former capital of the Georgian kingdom and the birthplace of Christianity in Georgia, is a picturesque and peaceful small town whose quiet streets invite you to take a stroll.
Our journey continues to Gori, the infamous birthplace of Stalin, and a visit to the obscure "positive" Stalin Museum.
Apart from its vibrant history, Georgia is also known for its incredibly authentic cuisine. We'll have a traditional Georgian-style dinner and taste our way through all the delicious dishes that the country's cuisine has to offer.
When the weather is on our side, we drive to a canyon with dizzying rock walls. These are covered in a thick layer of moss and are home to many beautiful waterfalls, making this a truly magical place. We will explore this oasis by gliding through the deep blue-green waters by boat and approaching the falls. Don't forget your camera!
If the weather is not kind to us, we will go underground: At Sataplia Nature Reserve, we'll follow in the footsteps of dinosaurs before diving into the mystical atmosphere of the caves. A breathtaking experience where we can explore underwater lakes and rivers. The impressive stalactites and petrified waterfalls are home to hundreds of bats!
We end our day in Mestia, a pretty mountain village in the Caucasus Mountains.
At that time, enemies were careful not to penetrate too far into Svan territory, because deep in the mountains of Upper Swaneti was a community of villages with hundreds of stone watchtowers overlooking the mountain slopes. Ushguli is now considered one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe, with many towers still in perfect condition after more than a thousand years.
Due to its extreme remoteness, this former outpost offers incredible views over the mountains and the opportunity to immerse yourself in ancient village life and, of course, living history and breathtaking views. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this getaway will be the highlight of the trip and something to remember!
There is nothing quite like the first view of the beautiful Black Sea after coming around the final bend and off the mountains into the Black Sea capital. Today's drive is full of spectacular views, panoramas and ever-changing landscapes passing by the window. Once we arrive, we have time to relax on the beach or explore the city at our own pace.
Beyond the beach, Batumi offers a bizarre mix of ancient and modern architecture, bustling markets and captivating street art that reflects the unique composition of the region's history, culture and religion. A stroll down Batumi's boulevard is more than recommended, but of course we understand if the beach is more inviting.
As mentioned above, there are many exciting sights and activities to discover in Batumi. Nevertheless, for centuries the Black Sea has mainly attracted people who wanted to enjoy the relaxed beach life. The subtropical climate and the beautiful mountains that surround the seaside resort invite you to relax and unwind.
However, as the capital of the Adjara region and home to the ancient kingdom of Kolkhida, the region has been shaped by its vibrant history. The famous Gonio Fortress, right by the sea, is a constant reminder of this era. Have you ever heard of the stolen Golden Fleece?
Although it's hard to pronounce, you've probably seen or eaten acharuli khachapuri before. We will take part in a unique Georgian cooking class and prepare this delicious bread filled with melted cheese. By the way, the special bread, shaped like a boat, comes from the coastal area of Adjara.
All good things eventually come to an end and unfortunately this trip to Georgia is no exception. On the way back to Tbilisi we can let our minds wander, watch the landscape gradually change and reflect on our experiences of the last eleven days. With all the memories of the diverse history, natural beauty and incredible hospitality of this unique country in our luggage, we return home with unforgettable stories that will also surprise our friends.
Our guide takes us to a nice restaurant and together we celebrate the end of the trip with traditional Georgian dances and look back on some of the most impressive experiences as well as new friendships. As Tbilisi is the vibrant centre, there are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the last evening into the night.
The last day of your adventure trip has arrived. After a final breakfast at the hotel, we will ensure a smooth transfer back to the airport to catch your flight home or to your next destination. If you would like to extend your stay and explore the area further on your own, we can help you with ideas for additional activities and sightseeing.
