Our private shuttle will pick you up at the airport and we will drive to the volunteer center at Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary, where we will spend the first days of our trip. In the evening we will get to know each other better at our Welcome Barbecue.
After a hearty breakfast in the morning we get an introduction about the Naankuse Sanctuary, the work that is being done there and the animals that are currently being treated there. We have the chance to learn about Namibian wildlife while helping out with a fantastic project. We promise you, this is an experience you will never forget.
We start our morning again by helping in the Naankuse sanctuary. This means, for example, having the opportunity to feed orphaned or injured animals. At the sanctuary they take care of cheetahs, leopards, lions and African wild dogs. This is definitely an incredible experience to meet these animals! Since the Naankuse Sanctuary wants to rehabilitate as many animals as possible, we will also take care of what is called "Animal Enrichment". This means preparing the animals for a life in freedom after they have fully recovered.
We start our day again with volunteering at Naankuse Sanctuary. Besides feeding the animals and helping with the work in the enclosures, we also have the opportunity to go on a game count. This will involve exploring the area and counting the animals we see. This will give us a first glimpse of all the stunning game drives we will be doing during our trip. So enjoy the time, but also be excited for what is to come later on our trip.
As every day at Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary holds some new experiences for us, we will for example have the opportunity to learn about GPS data of animal movements and why they are important or about camera traps. But of course we will also have the opportunity to feed the animals again, don't worry! Our last day full of work is then slowly coming to an end, but this was certainly an experience that will be talked about for a long time!
This morning we start again to prepare the food for the animals and help with the feeding, we know this is your favorite part! But after 1-2 hours we are done for the day and you can enjoy the time e.g. at the pool or enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Naankuse sanctuary. So sit back and soak up some sun.
Today we will leave the Naankuse Conservation Area behind and make our way back to Windhoek. Once there, we will have some free time to explore the city, prepare for the incredible safaris or just relax by the pool. If you wish, you can also participate in optional activities, our partners at the hotel can offer you something suitable. In the evening we will have a traditional "potjiekos", literally translated "food in a small pot", a special and very tasty version of a stew.
After an early start to the day, we make our way to Etosha National Park, a huge game reserve where you can see all kinds of wildlife. After arriving there, we start our first game drive through the park, visiting waterholes and looking out for wildlife. Be ready for zebras, rhinos, giraffes and much more. It's an amazing place on earth, and we'll have the chance to visit it. After a full afternoon of breathtaking scenery, we head to our lodge for dinner around an open fire and a view of another waterhole nearby.
Today we have to get up early, but it's worth it, I promise! Early morning gives you the best chance to see all the predators that live in this area. As the sun slowly rises, we make our way through the park, enjoying the morning light that bathes the whole area in a golden glow. Our second game drive of the day takes us into the Etosha Pan, a huge dried up salt pan where we can look out for the Big 5: Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and African Buffalo. Lunch is at our lodge where we have plenty of time for a dip in the pool before heading out on our final game drive of the day.
Today we leave the beautiful Etosha National Park, but Damaraland awaits us. On our way we will meet the Herero, Himba & Damara ladies who sell handmade arts and crafts to support the rural communities. We will have the chance to see the highest mountain in Namibia and on our way along the Skeleton Coast we can explore the remains of an old shipwreck. In the afternoon we arrive in Swakopmund, a small town by the sea, which we can explore in the afternoon.
This morning you can take part in optional activities such as sandboarding or quad biking before we begin our drive through the vast Namib Desert and cross the Tropic of Capricorn in Solitaire. After we arrive at our lodge in the afternoon, you can sit back and relax or hop in the pool as you wish. Later in the day we take a short sunset walk overlooking the Naukluft mountain range, a breathtaking sight!
Today we have another early start. We leave at dawn to arrive at Namib Naukluft National Park for sunrise. The rising sun will transform this amazing place into a shimmering, golden-red landscape of a vast salt pan with stunning dunes waiting for us to explore. We take a 4×4 shuttle into Sossusvlei and hike from there to Dead Vlei, a large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees contrasting with a backdrop of massive dunes. Later, we stop at Dune 45, a dune that is cleared for climbing. It can be a bit strenuous, but imagine the view from a huge dune overlooking the whole area, it's definitely worth it. Besides the view of the huge dunes, we have a chance to see wild animals that live here, maybe we will see some springboks that are common here.
Today we head back to Windhoek, but of course we have another little special for you on this drive. We make a stop in Solitaire where we get into an open vehicle to drive through the local cheetah conservation project. They take care of several cheetahs that for various reasons cannot be released back into the wild. We have the chance to learn a lot about the cheetahs living there and get a last look at the animals in Namibia. We then drive back to Windhoek arriving there in the afternoon before our last dinner together in the evening.
This morning we have the opportunity to join a City Walking Tour, but after that it's time to say goodbye. We'll head to the airport and you'll be on your way home or to your next destination. If you would like to extend your stay and explore the area further on your own, we will be happy to give you tips for additional activities and sightseeing.
