Welcome to your Kilimanjaro trip! A private shuttle will take you to your lodge. For the rest of the day you will have time to settle in and rest or explore the town. In the evening we will come together to get to know each other and look forward to the adventure ahead.
In the first half of the day we will visit a nearby village to acclimatise and experience first hand what it is like to live on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Expect colourful markets, head to one of the local chagga bars for a traditional brew and don't forget your swimwear for a dip under the waterfall overlooking the valley!
Later in the day, a pre-climb briefing will be arranged where your guides will guide you through the upcoming trek, check your equipment and share some of their best tips and tricks for successfully conquering Africa's highest peak! So you'll be fully prepared for your Kilimanjaro trip!
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your lodge in Moshi and driven to the starting point at Marangu Gate. After registration, we begin our Kilimanjaro journey to the summit via a well-maintained trail through the Montane Forest, passing through dense rainforest and coffee plantations, while our guide tells you about the local flora and fauna. A short detour to the nearby Maundi Crater offers magnificent views over Kenya and northern Tanzania.
We will spend our first night on the mountain at Mandara Huts - a group of dormitory-style wooden huts with solar-powered lighting and all necessary facilities, including water and toilets.
On the second day, you hike along a somewhat steeper path to the Horombo Hut. The trail leads through the mountain forest before entering the moorland vegetation zone, where you will find rolling mountain meadows with huge heather trees. During the hike we will have spectacular views of Mawenzi - the second highest peak in the region.
After about six hours of hiking you will reach the Horombo hut, where you will get hot water for washing, dinner and an overnight stay. Horombo is a hut village on a small plateau where we will have the opportunity to come together and reflect on our achievements so far!
After a hearty breakfast, you will continue at a slow pace through the heathland, which quickly turns into an almost moon-like landscape when you reach the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. During this trek you may experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, but don't worry as your experienced guides will be on hand to help you in any way they can, giving you tips and tricks. From here, you'll have fantastic views of Kilimanjaro's summit before reaching Kibo Hut - a dry-walled hut with dormitories. Rest up for the evening at the Kibo Huts and prepare for your final ascent to the summit!
Around midnight you venture out into the night and begin your final ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. You will head northwest through the massive boulder field and follow several switchbacks between Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers until you reach Gilman's Point, from where you will have a great view of the crater. Your guide will set a comfortable pace and slowly advance to the summit as we hike along the crater rim for another hour before finally reaching the ultimate destination - Uhuru Peak!
Congratulations! You have now made it to the "Roof of Africa". The weather conditions on the summit will determine how long you can stay there, but it is important to start your descent in time to ensure you get enough rest back at Kibo Hut. After your rest, collect the rest of your belongings and descend to Horombo Hut (3,720m) for dinner and a well-deserved sleep!
After breakfast, you will begin the easiest part of your Kilimanjaro adventure via a scenic trail through the forest to Marangu Gate. Our shuttle will take us back to the hotel and all successful hikers who made it to Stella Point and Uhuru Peak will receive their summit certificates. Then it's time for a hot shower, dinner together and celebrations with a well-deserved Kilimanjaro beer (or two).
The last day of your adventurous Kilimanjaro travels has arrived. After a final breakfast at the lodge, we will ensure that you have a smooth transfer back to the airport to catch your flight home or to your next destination. You also have the option to stay nearby and continue with an epic safari in the Serengeti. Why leave already?
