Capbon Guesthouse

Your highlight today: Experience an incredible feeling of freedom in the Kalahari Savannah!

The next morning you will be given the car for your tour and you will discuss all the important information about driving in Namibia. Among other things, you will be informed about the condition of the roads, speed limits and traffic rules. You will get maps and important phone numbers and a short briefing about your route. Of course, you will also have time to ask all your questions and to clarify before it goes off alone.

Your first drive will take you from the bustling capital to the endless expanses of the Kalahari Savannah. Namibia is only a part of the vast sandy area, which also extends to neighboring countries such as Botswana and Zambia. There, beautiful nature and the magnificent animals of Africa are waiting for you! You will be amazed at the diversity of species you will encounter despite the drought, the animals have adapted perfectly to the habitat. Meet the indigenous people, also called "San People". Kalahari is very diverse and will definitely be one of your travel highlights!

Breakfast

private transfer (approx. 280 km/3 hours)

Kalahari Anib Campsite

Your highlight today: Huge dunes and the "Vlei" are waiting for you!

Next, Sossusvlei, the highest dune in the world, awaits you. A natural beauty in the heart of Namibia, it has a lot to offer. The sand mountains rise with heights of up to 300 meters and surround the "Vlei", the mostly dry river, only in good rainy years you can find water in the salt-clay pan. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Namib Sand Sea since 2013. Despite the living conditions, for example, spitbuck, desert gold mule or even the puff adder find their home here.

Breakfast

private transfer (approx. 310 km/3,5 hours)

 Desert Camp

Your highlight today: Relax on the beautiful coast of Namibia!

Today you are going to the beautiful Namibian sea! On your way to relax on the sandy beach, however, there are still some highlights waiting for you, which are definitely worth a stop. Before you set off, you could visit the impressive Sesriem Canyon. After you have started your route today, the small settlement of Solitaire is waiting for you after about an hour's drive. There is a very famous bakery where you can take a break. In addition, if necessary, you should take the last refueling opportunity here. On your onward journey, you will cross the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Afterwards you go to the coast, with the first place Walvis Bay, there you can observe thousands of Flamigos at the coast. From there you can enjoy a drive along the coast to Swakopmund. Once you arrive in the former German colony, a beautiful beach awaits you, where you can completely relax and enjoy the sun's rays. Swakopmund is a beautiful place that offers colonial architecture and a great selection of coffees and restaurants. Optionally you can book a canoe tour or the Living Desert Tour.

Breakfast

private transfer (approx. 350 km/4,5 hours)

Sea Breeze Guesthouse

Your highlight today: Immerse yourself in millennia of history!

On today's day of your journey you will head further north, first a 50-minute drive along the coast to Henties Bay awaits you. Enjoy the view of the beautiful sea once again before returning to the equally impressive nature of the interior. You will cross the Omaruru River, which only flows during the rainy season. If you wish, you can stop at the rather quiet place. On your way you will also cross the Tsiseb Conservancy, a nature reserve, where you will find the highest mountain in Namibia, a breathtaking nature as well as many wild animals. In Twyfelfontein millennia of history await you! Marvel at seemingly endless rock carvings and rock paintings of the National Monument, which date back to the Stone Age. For safety reasons to protect the World Heritage Site, visits are accompanied by a guide. Also highly recommended is a visit to the Damara Living Museum, a place to learn about and remember Namibia's indigenous people, the Damara. You will be immersed in the fascinating culture and make an important contribution to the Damara community.

 Breakfast, dinner

private transfer (approx. 330 km/4 hours)

Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp

Your highlight today: Experience the animals up close!

Today we will visit one of the most important sights of Namibia, the Etosha National Park in Okaukuejo. There you will find the famous waterhole, where you can marvel at the wildlife up close. You have a direct view from your accommodation and can see for example elephants, rhinos, hyenas or lions. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Breakfast

Okaukuejo Resort

Your highlight today: Marvel at the endless expanses of the gigantic Etosha Pan!

You will spend two more days in the huge and exciting national park. A drive of about 70 kilometers will bring you to Halali, which is located at the gigantic Etosha Pan. A few million years ago an inland lake was formed there. Nowadays, in particularly rainy years, you are lucky enough to have some water collecting there, attracting thousands of flamingos and other waterfowl. The extent of the salt pan is immense, about 120 kilometers long and 50 kilometers wide, it seems almost infinite. Definitely a must-see on a Namibia trip!

Breakfast

private transfer (about 70 km/1,5 hours)

Halali Resort

The third and last day brings you after a two hour drive along the Etosha Basin to the east of the National Park, to Onguma.

 Breakfast

private transfer (approx. 90 km/2 hours)

Onguma Bush Camp

Your highlight today: The green tropics of Namibia!

Today you will drive south to the Waterberg Plateau National Park. On the way you will pass the places Tsumeb, Grootfontein and Rietfontein, where you can also take a break. Each 20 minutes detour from Tsumeb or Grootfontein, you could view either the beautiful Guinassee or the Hoba Meteorite, the largest meteorite discovered on earth to date. When you arrive at the Waterberg Plateau National Park, pristine nature and unfortunate history await you. In 1904 German soldiers fought here against the Herero population, they had to flee and lived afterwards in a very dry area, where survival was hardly possible. The national park impresses with dreamlike nature from savannah to almost tropical area with a lot of green. The variety of animals is therefore also very diverse, so there are giraffes, leopards, antelopes or also the extremely rare vulture species, the Cape vulture, as well as many other animals. In addition, the highlight, a 2-hour Cheetah Conservation Fund CCF tour, is waiting for you.

Breakfast, dinner

private transfer (approx. 300 km/4 hours)

Waterberg Wilderness Lodge

Your highlight today: Experience the capital of Namibia!

Your last trip will be to the capital of Namibia, Windhoek. It is located in the center of the country and has many interesting sights to offer. Some have to do with the German occupation and Namibia's later independence. The Old Fortresses, for example, have a National Museum, a Lutheran Christ Church, the Equestrian Monument or the Independence Memorial Museum. It is also highly recommended to visit the Tukondjeni Market, with many local products or the Penduka Project, which supports women in Namibia.

Breakfast

It is recommended to get a SIM card (MTC Namibia or TN Mobile) and top it up with some phone credit if you plan to go to the parks alone.

What else should I look out for on a self-drive tour in Namibia?

To have the smoothest self-drive adventure in Namibia pay attention to the following things:

  • Always have enough cash with me (even at the gas stations is paid in cash)
  • Always take a charged cell phone with you
  • Always have enough water with you and if necessary something to eat
  • Find out in time where is the nearest gas station
  • Always park the car in a private/secured parking lot
  • Wild camping is not allowed
  • If possible, do not drive in the dark, from about 7 p.m. (many drivers sometimes do not turn on their lights, or drive with high beams).
  • Drive defensively - buses like to overtake, so always keep an eye on the rear view mirror
  • Always set the turn signal when turning and overtaking
  • Avoid potholes
  • Do not drive faster than allowed
  • Always turn on the central locking in cities
  • Do not leave valuables unattended in the car
  • Always have your driver's license with you
  • Do not overload the car
  • Always turn on your headlights

Can I arrive earlier or leave later?

You can individually plan a few days in advance or add a few days to all our trips, as it suits you best. Of course, we are also happy to give you tips for accommodation!

What does your collaboration with local partners look like in concrete terms?

For us, supporting locals means working only with local guides, staying in local, family-run hotels, and eating at local restaurants. We often have a social/environmental cause that we incorporate into our trips (from volunteering at a wildlife rescue center in Namibia to the support of Buddhist monks in Nepal in their daily work or visiting a school in a Soviet ghost town in Kyrgyzstan and bringing soccer balls, books, pens, etc.).

German citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days per year.
In addition to the standard vaccinations according to the RKI, travel vaccinations against hepatitis A, and for long-term stays or special exposure also against hepatitis B, typhoid, rabies and meningococcal disease (ACWY) are recommended. Malaria is transmitted by crepuscular and nocturnal Anopheles mosquitoes. A high risk of malaria exists year-round in the north and northeast of the country (Zambezi/Caprivi Strip, Kavango West, Kavango East, Ohangwena, north of Omusati, Oshikoto). A high risk of malaria can be expected in the Otjozondjupa district in the northeast of the country from September to May, and a low risk from June to August. A low risk exists year-round in the northwest including the Kunene District as well as Etosha National Park. In the rest of the country the malaria risk is minimal. Windhoek, the coast, the Namib Desert and the areas south of Karasburg are considered malaria-free. To avoid malaria, protect yourself consistently from insect bites as part of exposure prophylaxis. Depending on the travel profile, chemoprophylaxis (taking tablets) is also advisable in addition to the necessary exposure prophylaxis. Various prescription drugs (e.g. atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, mefloquine) are available on the German market for this purpose. Discuss the choice of medication and its personal adaptation as well as side effects or incompatibilities with other medications with a tropical medicine doctor or travel physician before taking it. It is recommended to take a sufficient supply with you.

You have the possibility to book your round trip both with and without included flight. If necessary, you can easily request your flights for the round trip via WhatsApp and we will send you a personal offer. All our selected flights are operated by renowned airlines.
