You have the option to book your flights separately or contact us quickly and easily via WhatsApp for a personal flight quote. If you book your flight yourself, plan your journey so that you arrive at the airport around afternoon to start our Sri Lanka adventure together with Daisy and the other travelers in the evening.
Your highlight today: City tour of Colombo
Upon arrival at the airport in Colombo, you will be warmly welcomed by our local guide. Together you will drive to the first hotel to check in and get to know your fellow travelers as well as Daisy. Together we will learn more about the commercial metropolis of Sri Lanka during a city tour before enjoying our first dinner together.
Daisy will host you and the group from today and answer any questions you have about her travels. While you're sharing your travel experiences, she's sure to have a travel hack or two that she'll be happy to share with you!
Your highlight today: The women's project Selyn
Today we are heading to Anuradhapura, further into the north of the country. Before arriving there, however, we make a stopover in Kurunegala. There we will visit the women's project Selyn, which preserves the teachings of traditional handicrafts and focuses on sustainable handicrafts. Especially rural women are supported by Selyn, opportunities for work and self-determination are created for them.
Your highlight today: Meditate with a monk in the jungle monastery
There is a lot to discover in Anuradhapura - first we will explore the ruins of the city by bike. After lunch we will learn Carrom, a popular board game in Sri Lanka as well as how to write our name in Sinhala. Afterwards we will visit a young monk in the jungle monastery Kaludiya Pokuna, with whom we can talk and meditate about life as a monk. The Mihintale monastery, not far away, is situated so high that we can admire the sunset from here over the vast jungle landscape in the evening. We round off this impressive day with an authentic street food dinner.
Your highlight today: Bath in hot springs
During today's drive to Trincomalee, we will stop at the Kaniya hot springs. These are often visited by the locals to douse themselves with the holy water of the 7 small hot springs. We also test this cultural experience. Afterwards we visit the colorfully decorated Kooneswaran Hindu Temple, before we can rest a bit at our resort on the beach and let our eyes wander over the wide sea.
Your highlight today: Climb the Sigiriya Rock
Today we will visit a farmer family where we can help to harvest vegetables. Afterwards we will cook in a traditional Sri Lankan way with the family. Rural life will also give us an insight of what problems can occur for farmers in some areas of Sri Lanka when elephants come across the fields.
After visiting the family, we will visit the famous Sigiriya Rock - a gigantic monolith in the middle of Sri Lanka, reminiscent of a leafy jungle version of Uluru. But you are allowed to climb it, historical events took place on it and even kings ruled from the high throne more than a thousand years ago. At the top we find witnesses of past times: Ruins of a historic rock fortress stand out against the seemingly endless view over the deep green landscape of Sri Lanka.
Your highlight today: Visit the largest cave temple in the country
On today's way to Kandy, the cultural center in the middle of Sri Lanka, we will visit the Dambulla Temple - the largest and best preserved Buddhist cave temple in Sri Lanka. Afterwards we will go "where the pepper grows" - and a lot of other herbs and plants: In the spice garden we learn more about the cultivation of various spices. After a delicious lunch at the Women Project Aluvihara Kitchen we drive on until we arrive in Kandy at our hotel.
Your highlight today: The Temple of the Tooth of the Buddha
Kandy is a majestic city surrounded by picturesque mountains and tea plantations, proud to be the last stronghold of Sinhala kings. Today we will visit the Dalada Maligawa - a masterpiece of ancient and traditional Kandyan architecture, combining the royal palace complex and the Tooth Temple of the Buddha. After a tea break at the oldest hotel in Sri Lanka, the Queen's Hotel, we will conclude our city tour with a visit to the Kandy Botanical Gardens, where we can admire a variety of plants.
Your highlight today: Ride the train and enjoy the panoramic view
Off to the hill country: visit a tea factory and pick your own tea: Your own Ceylon tea. Afterwards we will visit the town of Nuwaraeliya, which is still marked by the British character. During a subsequent train ride from Nanuoya to Bandarawela we will be able to enjoy the beautiful view over the hill country. The panorama makes the train ride a unique experience.
Your highlight today: Meet elephants in an orphanage
By tuk-tuk, we will make our way to Lipton's Seat - a viewpoint in the high mountains that offers you views over the vast tea plantations. We will then visit the town of Ella, home of the Nine-Arch Bridge, considered the most beautiful bridge in the country. We then continue to Udawalawe to visit an elephant orphanage and then explore the adjacent national park on a jeep tour.
Your highlight today: Plant your own tree in the rainforest reforestation project
On the way to our next stop, breathtaking views of numerous valleys, streams and rivers await us. Once in the jungle, we will visit the Cinnamon Rainforest Restoration Project. Our expedition will take us deep into the tranquil wilderness. The reforestation project aims to counteract climate change and support natural forest growth. Habitat restoration is critical to preserving the jungle's fragile flora and fauna. With your TripLegend trip, you not only help in this project, but also travel sustainably and climate-compensated. Learn more about our sustainability strategy here.
Your highlight today: Discover exotic flora and fauna on a jungle hike
To see the rainforest once again from its most beautiful sides, we will do a real jungle hike today. Optionally, we can venture on a 3-hour kayak trip on the Kalu Ganga River. We will then drive to the south of Sri Lanka to visit the historic Dutch Fort in Galle. We will spend the night in Unawatuna, a seaside town where we can relax and enjoy our last day tomorrow.
Your highlight today: Discover the trendy city and relax on the beach
Today we can make our own day! In Unawatuna you will find one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka, where we can practice various water sports, including swimming, snorkeling, or diving. From October-April there is even a chance to spot whales or go surfing. The center of Unawatuna is equipped with trendy cafes and restaurants and invites you to stroll around. A little relaxing in the soft sand, the sound of the waves in your ears, can't be wrong either. Let's enjoy the last day!
After enjoying a final breakfast together and sharing our travel highlights, we will drive back to Colombo together to begin our journey home or onward.
If you book your flights separately, you can flexibly plan your return flight on the day of departure.
We'd love to have you back for the next adventure!
Buddi is one of our great guides, but it is possible that another equally great guide will accompany you on your trip. In your TripLegend WhatsApp group, you will find out who your guide will be before you start your trip and you can even contact him/her in advance.
