There is a good chance that we will see some interesting animals on the way there: Dik Diks, gazelle, baboons and many more. Once we arrive in the village, one thing quickly catches our eye: the women with their split lower lip. They wear clay disks up to 15 cm wide. Between the ages of 12 and 16, they begin to split their lips and stretch them with wooden blocks. There we visit the Key Afar market, which takes place every Thursday and is visited and maintained by the Derase, Tsemay and Bena peoples. We then explore a Konso village. The Konso are known for their tradition of erecting wooden tombs to mark the resting places of important leaders and warriors. They are elaborately decorated with the distinctive features of the deceased. These poles are also erected to symbolize the transition of a generation into adulthood. However, these can then be found on the village square. We then head to our hotel for today, which is also located in Konso.

Your highlight today: We follow in the footsteps of the origin of coffee!

Our journey today takes us through picturesque coffee plantations, and we take the time to taste the most aromatic coffee locally. Hardly anyone knows that Ethiopia is considered the country of origin of coffee! A short stop at the stelae fields of Tutu Fella not only provides an opportunity to explore the uncertain origins and significance of these prehistoric stone monuments, but also allows us to stretch our legs. After our arrival in Awassa, a short city tour awaits us to get an overview of the town. We end the evening together either in the town or in our hotel.

Your highlight today: Experience a local fish market

After a delicious breakfast, we explore the local fish market on the shores of Lake Hawassa. Here we experience the variety of fish, including the Ethiopian "sushi" variety, and observe the colorful hustle and bustle of the locals. We then travel to Yirgalem to Aregash Lodge, nestled between coffee plantations and lush vegetation. The charming tukuls in the style of traditional Sidama village houses offer cozy accommodation. The nearby forest is also home to over 100 species of birds and mammals, and the coffee plantation and nocturnal visits by hyenas promise further fascinating impressions.
