You can therefore consider whether you would like to go to one of the larger museums, such as the Museum of History, the Museum of Art, the Museum of Ethnography or the Treasury. The National Art Gallery

With the Art gallery This is a very important cultural institution, which has the task of preserving Georgian works of art. to present and preserve. It is located in a historical building in Tbilisi, which already lends the exhibitions a certain charm due to its architecture.

The works of art that can be admired in the art gallery cover a period from the Middle Ages to the present day. The exhibits themselves are as varied as the time span. There are classical paintings, impressive sculptures, colorful graphics and numerous other Forms of visual art to consider.

Shota Rustaveli Museum of Literature

If you are more interested in Literature than for art, the Shota Rustaveli Museum recommendable.

The museum is named after Shota Rustaveli, a Georgian poet and writer of the 12th century. He became particularly famous for his work Vepkhistqaosani (The warrior in the deep fur), which is now considered the national epic of Georgia. But this work is not only important in Georgia; in 2013 it was declared a World Documentary Heritage.

The museum houses a wide range of items dedicated to the life and work of Shota Rustaveli. These include valuable handwritten manuscripts from the Middle Ages, as well as personal items and works of art inspired by his literature. The museum also provides insights into the historical context in which the poet lived and worked.

The Shota Rustaveli Museum allows you to immerse yourself in the exciting world of the cultural and literary landscape of the Georgian Middle Ages.

The Museum of Soviet Occupation

For 70 years, from 1921-1991, Georgia was under Soviet occupation. The museum is dedicated to documenting and presenting this period.

The museum was opened in 2006 on Georgia's national holiday, May 26, with the aim and purpose of reconstructing and documenting the events of the Soviet occupation.

In particular, the changes in the country were analyzed, including the political transformation from a republic to a dictatorship, but the social and cultural effects of the occupation were also presented.

The Museum of Soviet Occupation uses historical documents and photographs for its exhibitions. However, the personal stories of the Georgian people, which are also told in the museum, are particularly impressive.

The Sighnaghi Museum

Finally, we would like to introduce a museum that is not located in Tbilisi. The Sighnaghi Museum is located in (as the name suggests) Sighnaghi, a picturesque town in the Kakheti region, which is also worth a visit independently of the museum.

The exhibitions focus on the cultural heritage of the Kakheti region. This is presented through a variety of exhibits, such as traditional clothing, handmade objects and ethnographic collections.

Almost all of the exhibits were unearthed during archaeological excavations in the 1960s. Some of the objects found date back to the Stone Age and form the oldest part of the collection. Many everyday objects, such as weapons, musical instruments and textiles, make it possible to reconstruct urban life between the 4th and 18th centuries.
