Your adventure in Armenia between a dreamlike mountain landscape and a breathtaking cultural history. The best tips.
The country, with its Silk Road and war remains, is one of the earliest Christian cultures in the world. Armenia's history continues to provide highlights to this day.
Marked by diverse nature, mountain passes, incredible serpentines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and mystical monasteries, your Armenia adventure will be unforgettable.
Tip 1: The best season
First of all, you should think about what time of year you want to visit the country. The climate in May, June, September and October is pleasant and easy to bear. In November to mid-May it is rather cold. If you like the warm climate, you can travel to Armenia from July to early September.
Tip 2: The right duration of travel
For your pre-planning, the duration of the trip is relevant. Is a 7 day adventure enough for you to get a first impression or do you have a lot of time and want to enjoy different routes through dreamlike mountain landscapes, serpentines or a drawn nature to the highlights? For a stress-free trip and a deeper insight into the country, a travel duration of about 8-10 days is recommended. However, if you want to combine one or the other country and enjoy Armenia to the fullest, a travel duration of about 14 days is recommended.
Tip 3: The best payment
The Armenian currency is the Armenian dram. However, you can exchange the money in banks or authorized exchange offices. Currently, one Armenian dram is equivalent to 0.0024 euros. Yerevan, the capital (also called Yerevan or Erevan) or the slightly larger cities are where most ATMs are located. Somewhat more rural, you will have more difficulty withdrawing cash, as the preferred method of payment for Armenians is cashless.
Tip 4: Your travel booking
The flight duration is about 3 hours. You should book your flights in time so that you travel by direct flight to avoid stopovers or longer waiting times.
Tip 5: Things to know about suitable accommodation
Regarding accommodation, you should also think about it in advance. Due to the fact that the country in the Caucasus is still undiscovered by tourists, there are not many accommodation offers. In the best case, it is recommended to book the respective accommodations in advance, or at least select them if you want to experience your adventure rather spontaneously.
Tip 6: The most important documents
If you are in Armenia for less than 6 months, you do not need a visa. Your passport will be enough. However, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months. Your national driver's license is not accepted as a border document.
Tip 7: The best handling of the luggage
For your luggage you should pay attention to the import and export regulations. Armenia applies a list of import and export regulations compiled by the EAWU. Furthermore, you should pay attention to rather handy, easily stowable luggage. Since Armenia has a lot to offer and you will certainly have to deal with adventure trails on your trip, it is more comfortable to start it with handy or easily stowable luggage.
It is best to pack clothes that correspond to the season in which you are traveling. However, you should also make sure that your clothes are not too revealing, because Armenia is still rather conservative in this respect. To take the best adventure pictures with your cell phone or camera, you will need the appropriate adapters. In Armenia the sockets type C and F are used. If you live in Germany, you do not need a suitable adapter.
Tip 8: Your health preparations
Your health should come first. The hospitals in Armenia do not meet the standards of Europe. Accordingly, it is recommended to carry a well-equipped first-aid kit. If a hospital visit is unavoidable, most hospitals are located in Armenia's capital Yerevan.
Tip 9: The best communication
The official language is Armenian. Many Armenians also speak Russian and the English language is spreading more and more.
Tip 10: Values and norms of Armenia
Family in Armenia is highly valued. It is best to keep respect for the elderly. In populated areas, especially at night, you should refrain from making a lot of noise. On the whole, however, Armenians count as sincere and accommodating.
Tip 11: The best Food
Coming to the last tip, Armenia is a very culinary country. The traditional cuisine promises a lot. On the menus you will find dishes such as chash or khash, a dish that consists of cow shank and is one of the most popular dishes, köfte or kufta, grilled, baked or fried, strongly spiced, meatballs, or tolma, stuffed vine leaves.
