West Iceland: on an exploration tour

West Iceland is often described as "Iceland in miniature". So you can discover a wide range of offers here:

  • Walks through the National Park
  • Caves
  • Volcanic crater
  • Glacier climbing
  • Snorkeling

Discover the Snaefellsjökull National Park in the west of Iceland, which is the perfect place for hiking and exploring caves. For example Raudfeldsgjá Gorge.

As a hiker, you can also climb the craters of long-extinct volcanoes in the national park, such as the Saxhóll crater. The Snaefellsnes peninsula is also home to the Snaefellsjökull glacier, where glacier hikes and glacier climbing are particularly fun. You can also experience a unique adventure near Reykjavik, Iceland's capital, and go snorkeling between the continental plates.

Northern Iceland: wilderness, adventure and northern lights

North Iceland is a paradise for nature lovers. It is home to two of Iceland's largest waterfalls, Godafoss and Dettifoss. These offer a majestic spectacle for Photography Lovers. If you are looking for adrenaline and fun, you will find the perfect offer in the north of Iceland: rafting in the East Glacial River or through a canyon. Here you can also choose between different tours, a family-friendly tour or a tour for daredevils.

The north is also known for its whale-watching tours. So if you want to combine adventure with animals, then you've come to the right place in the north and should head to Húsavík. On such a tour, you can also see many more animals than just whales. If you're lucky, you might also see some dolphins, seals or the famous "puffins" (puffins).Puffin).

And of course the spectacle par excellence, the Northern Lights. These can be seen in Iceland between September and March. Your personal dream can come true here and you can watch this breathtaking natural spectacle. In principle, you can see the Northern Lights anywhere in Iceland, but the further north you go, the better. The important thing here is:

  • Step out of the light of the city and into the darkness of the surroundings,
  • The sky should also be cloudless,
  • Pack something warm to drink,
  • Bring a lot of patience with you,
  • Relax while you wait.

Follow these 5 tips to make your Northern Lights hunting experience an unforgettable adventure!

East Iceland: glaciers, fjords and more

An untouched wilderness awaits you in the east of Iceland. You can see reindeer here if you keep an eye out. You can also go trekking in the remote fjords and see the steep cliffs and unique birdlife of Iceland.

Another unique attraction is the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where icebergs float along. You can observe the glacier lagoon from the shore and walk further to the famous Diamond Beach to get closer to the icebergs. If you dare, embark on an exciting trip through the glaciers. Either by kayak, speed boat or amphibious boat (a boat that can travel both on land and water). It is not uncommon for seals to join you, as they are very curious about new guests. You can combine this experience with an ice cave tour. This takes you into the glacier and gives you a closer look at its splendor.

South Iceland: Adventures on the Ring Road

The town of Vík is located in the south of Iceland. Here, horse lovers can go on horseback riding tours on Black Sand Beach. Even if you are a novice rider, you are very welcome here and will receive instruction and help from friendly locals. Another must-see are the waterfalls in the south, which are located along Iceland's ring road, for example Seljalandsfoss or Skógafoss.
