Tips for preparation for the Kenya trip

Table of Contents

You have decided to spend your vacation in Kenya? Then you certainly already know, Why Kenya Travel are so worthwhile. However, before you leave, you should first make a few important travel preparations. For a long-distance trip, it is generally advisable to get some information about the destination country before you start your journey. This way you can avoid unwanted situations during your vacation and enjoy your precious time there. In this article we have compiled a few helpful tips for your Kenya vacation preparation.

Visa and entry requirements

Passport And Vaccination Card

It is important to inform yourself in advance about the current visa and entry requirements. German citizens need a passport valid for at least another six months for entry into Kenya and the presentation of a return or onward ticket is necessary.

Furthermore, a visa is required for entry, which can be issued through the electronic visa system for a fee of 51 USD. Further information and instructions on how to apply for the visa are available from the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya.

Note: The requirements of individual airlines regarding the documents to be carried may differ in part from the state regulations. Therefore, it is advisable to check again with the booked airline.

Vaccinations and prophylaxis

Which vaccinations are necessary for a trip to Kenya depends mainly on the itinerary. For a beach vacation, fewer vaccinations are needed than for trips that lead into the interior of the country, such as a safari.

In general, all standard vaccinations, such as polio, tetanus, measles or diphtheria should be refreshed. Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are also recommended for Kenya.

Yellow fever vaccination is not mandatory for entry from Germany, but it is recommended for travel in the country for all persons nine months and older. Dengue fever, typhoid, rabies and meningococcal disease (ACWY) are also recommended as travel vaccinations. Kenya is a malaria country, therefore it is recommended to take a malaria prophylaxis. It is best to consult a tropical and/or travel doctor for advice on vaccinations and prophylactic treatments.

Medication, sunscreen and mosquito repellent

Medication, Sunscreen And Mosquito Repellent For Your Trip To Kenya

Another important aspect of a trip to Kenya is a well-stocked first-aid kit. This should contain a sufficient amount of personal medication and not to forget: enough sun and mosquito protection. As mosquito repellent, long and light-colored clothing should be included in your luggage, as well as mosquito repellent with DEET. This is especially necessary at dusk.

If you wear contact lenses, it is also advisable to take a pair of glasses with you. On the road it can often be dusty and then are not always the best opportunities to be able to clean the lenses.

What is generally helpful when packing is a well-prepared packing list. This helps to keep the overview and not to forget anything important.

Plan journey to the airport

Just as important as the planning for Kenya itself, are also some vacation preparations before departure. These should not be forgotten if you want to start your flight without stress. This includes, for example, the journey to the airport. Are you planning to use public transportation or do you prefer the comfortable ride in your own car? In this case, however, you should always plan enough time and inform yourself about possible traffic jams and road works on the route, so that you do not get into time trouble on the way to the airport.

Another valuable tip to save time and money is to book your parking space at the airport in advance. Especially if you start at Frankfurt International Airport, there is a large selection of official parking spaces, but they are comparatively quite expensive. Cheaper you can do the Parking Frankfurt Airport book online with private providers. They offer either a free shuttle service to the terminal or a valet service, where you hand over your car to an employee who takes care of the annoying parking for you.

Make the flight comfortable

During the flight to Kenya, you will be on the plane for several hours at a time. To make the time as comfortable as possible, the choice of clothing in particular is an important factor. A tight pair of jeans, for example, will be less comfortable. Loose-fitting clothes that you feel comfortable in are best. Since it can sometimes get chilly on the plane due to the air conditioning, it's best not to dress too summery. There are usually blankets on the plane, but a few warm socks or a large scarf in your hand luggage can help.

To sleep better, it is advisable to ask the flight staff for earplugs and eye mask. Most airlines provide these free of charge. For the rest of the time you can take a tablet with movies and music or something to read.
