Climate in Nepal packing list for each season
With almost 8,700 meters, Nepal has the world's greatest differences in altitude in one country, which is why very different climatic zones prevail there. Basically, one distinguishes between the lowlands, the pre-Himalayas and the high mountains.
In the south of Nepal is the lowland with an annual average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Here is a subtropical climate, which makes the summers very hot and humid. Especially before the beginning of the monsoon in April or May it gets very humid with temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius. Winters, on the other hand, are mild and dry with an average temperature of about 17 degrees Celsius.
Moderate climate prevails in the pre-Himalayas from 1,500 meters above sea level. Here, warm summers alternate with cool winters. In January, the average temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius, but in July it rises up to 24 degrees Celsius. In winter, it can get quite chilly at night, but temperatures usually stay above freezing.
In the high mountains of Nepal, above 4,000 meters, there is an alpine climate. Since the temperatures here remain below zero almost all the time, the landscape here is covered with snow and ice throughout.
From June to September, almost the entire country is dominated by the southwest monsoon. It brings persistent rainfall, which accounts for 80-90% of the annual rainfall. The rest of the year, due to the northwest monsoon of the Tibetan plateau, it remains mostly dry.
