Title: Travel tips for safe travel in Jordan: Discover the kingdom with confidence

Jordan, a fascinating country with a rich history, breathtaking landscapes and hospitable people, attracts travelers from all over the world. So that your Trip to Jordan is an unforgettable experience, it is important to take some basic safety precautions. Here are some useful travel tips to make your experience in this fascinating kingdom safe and enjoyable.

Check current information for Jordan:

Before you start your trip, check the latest travel advice and safety information from official sources such as the Foreign Office, your embassy or consulate. This will enable you to find out about any safety concerns or travel restrictions.

Visa

German nationals require a visa to enter the country. This can be applied for online at the Jordanian Ministry of the Interior before the trip. It is also possible to apply via the Ministry of Interior app.

The competent Jordanian embassy no longer issues visas and they are no longer entered in passports. The electronically issued visa must be carried when entering the country.

It is not mandatory for German nationals to apply for a visa before entering the country; it is still possible to apply for a visa on arrival.

Visa on arrival

The visa can also be applied for "on arrival" at Queen Alia International and Aqaba airports. The visa fee of currently 40 JOD must be paid immediately at the airports in Jordanian dinars (exchange offices/ ATMs available). Credit card payment is usually possible.

Respect for local customs and traditions:

Jordan is a country with deeply rooted cultural traditions. Respect local customs and traditions, dress appropriately, especially in religious sites, and observe local customs. This not only contributes to safety, but also enables positive interaction with the local population.

Take care in road traffic:

The roads in Jordan can be challenging at times. Watch out for traffic, especially in the cities, and be careful when crossing roads. If you rent a car, make sure you are familiar with the local traffic rules.

Keep valuables safe:

As in any travel destination, it is important to keep valuables safe. Use the hotel safes and only carry the essentials with you. Be particularly vigilant in crowds and tourist areas to avoid pickpockets.

Do not neglect health care:

Before your trip, you should check whether vaccinations or other health precautions are necessary. It is best to take a first-aid kit with you that contains the necessary medication and bandages. Travel vaccinations are recommended by the Federal Foreign Office Vaccinations against hepatitis A, for long-term stays or special exposure also against hepatitis B, rabies and typhoid are recommended.

It is also important to be aware of the possibility of diarrhea, which in Jordan is caused in particular by drinking the wrong kind of water. Observe the following tips regarding this situation and you should be on the safe side.

  • Only drink water of safe origin, never tap water. Buying carbonated bottled water makes it easier to identify a previously opened bottle.
  • If possible, use drinking water for washing dishes and brushing your teeth when you are out and about.
  • If bottled water is not available, it is best to use filtered, disinfected or boiled water.
  • Cook or peel your own food.
  • Be sure to keep flies away from your food.
  • Wash your hands with soap as often as possible, but always before preparing food and before eating.
  • If possible, disinfect your hands with liquid disinfectant.

Know emergency numbers:

Memorize the local emergency numbers and the contact details of your embassy or consulate. In an emergency, it is important to get the right help quickly. Medical care in Amman is outstanding. With two well-equipped hospitals, you can always rely on help. Outside the capital, however, it is often difficult to count on reliable help. Therefore, be careful when traveling on your own in rural areas.
